Robert D. Hales
Elder Hales is our most beloved and respective relative. His kind
reverent leadership has been an influence all over the world.
He graduated from the University of Utah and Harvard University's
School of Business. He has served as head of four major
companies Gillette, Papermate a division of Gillette, Max Factor,
Hughes Television Network, and Chesebrough-Ponds
He served as a member of the First Quorum of Seventy, Presiding
Bishop of the Church and now as a member of the Quorum of the
Twelve Apostles. His accomplishments and writings would fill
several pages. We honor his name and look forward, as family
members, to hearing him address us on a personal level.

Lorraine Wight Hales
Lorraine has had a tenacity for detail and accuracy since an early age
which she has used both in the Church and her professional and family
life. (In fact she was often a key coordinator of working drawings and
specifications in Ron’s architectural office.) In the early 1970's, while
pondering a 3 page chronology of Ron’s Great Great Grandfather,
Stephen Hales, she became touched by the spirit with a desire to know
more. In 1996 she and Ron were called to serve a mission at the
Museum of History and Art in Salt Lake City. Her assignment was to
research the lives of early Church members, plus pertinent detailed
information necessary for the Museum designers to prepare exhibits for
various visitor centers. During her research, as she reviewed data in
the Church archives, she kept coming across information regarding the
members of the Hales family. This began an insatiable and tireless quest
for any and all information regarding this family. The result is a detailed
concordance of the day to day lives of Stephen and Mary Ann Hales who
were married in 1816; their children, Charles Henry, Mary Isabella,
Stephen, George, Harriet, and Henry William; and the grandchildren and
great grand children of this couple. Those 3 original pages now number
over 1,650, and it is still growing!

the George Hales line.
His most famous work is the creation of the Angel Moroni which
stands a top our beautiful temples. He was commissioned by the
Church to do this work in 1978. He also sculpted a replica of the
original angel that was on the Nauvoo Temple. His works can be
found at www.wasatchsculpture.com/gallery/gallery.html.
Other works include Joseph and Emma, Moses, Ever Pressing
Forward and James 1:5.
Karl will be a presenter at the Gathering. He is a member of the Hales
Gathering organizing committee. His descendants number over 100
Kenneth G. Hales
The Hales Family History Society was founded by Kenneth Glyn "Ken" Hales
in 1970, known then as The Hales Genealogical Society.
Ken is a retired IBM Advisory Engineer and Manager who became actively
involved in Hales Family genealogical research in 1970 while working as a
Field Manager for IBM in the San Francisco, California area. A family
organization and a quarterly called The Hales Newsletter was started which
lasted for nearly eight years and survived IBM moves from Concord,
California; to Bakersfield, California; to Walnut Creek, California; to
Longmont, Colorado; and to Tucson, Arizona. The Hales Newsletter and The
Hales Genealogical Society became inactive in 1981. During the hiatus from
1981 till 1985 Ken privately published his Roots book, Windows, a Mormon
Family. In 1995 he also published the First Edition of The Hales Chronicles.
Several years ago at the urging of his sons, he reactivated his Hales
genealogical activities as the Hales Family History Society and began a new
newsletter called appropriately The Hales Newsletter (New Series).
Ken is the true family genealogist. His website hales.org has over 33,000
names of our decedents. He has literally spent thousands of hours and
dollars in our behalf. We could never repay him for his efforts. We also owe
his wife Judy and family a great debt of gratitude as she supported his
cause.
